I’m Alex Mischler, and I’m very excited to be a part of Edgewood’s Personal Counseling Services in the 2019-2020 school year! Before coming to Edgewood, I’ve been an academic advisor at UW Madison and worked with volunteer clients in their counseling psychology training clinic. I enjoy working with college students for the unique energy and challenges that come with a college campus, and I’m looking forward to being a part of the Edgewood community.
I’m currently in the final year of obtaining my M.S. in Counseling Psychology at UW Madison where I also earned my B.A. (majoring in english and psychology with a certificate in german). While I don’t specialize in any particular student concerns, I take a more generalized approach to counseling. I enjoy working in many interest areas, including cultural and identity development, anxiety concerns, mood disorders, family and relationship issues, religious/spiritual concerns, and stress management.
My interests in language and storytelling naturally complement the narrative approach I take in counseling. I focus on the stories people tell about themselves and how the world works as well as the individual and cultural experiences that shape those narratives. I try to help people create personalized healthy ways of being rather than prescribing simple solutions. By enriching our understanding of these stories and being open to greater possibilities, I believe we create empowerment and wellness.
When I’m not at work or school, I enjoy spending time with loved ones, learning new creative hobbies, appreciating Wisconsin’s green spaces, and catching up on my latest television and music obsessions.
